Founded in 1991, the association’s mission is to promote the acquisition and widespread dissemination of knowledge about water and aquatic environments, particularly through science outreach, research, and studies.
The Regional Water Center carries out its work through:
- Scientific outreach and water education initiatives: conferences, exhibitions, development of communication and awareness-raising tools, instructional design, participatory workshops, educational presentations, training, seminars, and information monitoring…
Educational programs are part of various initiatives such as river management agreements or Flood Prevention and Action Programs (PAPI). These are aimed at young people, from elementary school through high school
- Exhibitions These highlight the current challenges facing these environments: pollution, climate change, habitat loss, etc. The goal is to raise awareness of the richness and fragility of our region’s aquatic environments and to educate the public on these issues
- Environmental expertise: scientific monitoring, studies and inventories, research programs, publications…
- Participation in water and aquatic environment governance bodies, and in forums for collective discussion on these issues
- International cooperation in its areas of expertise
The Aquathèque: This digital media library dedicated to water and aquatic environments aims to make knowledge and information accessible to a wider audience by removing barriers to access (free online access available to all) and by facilitating understanding through the use of appropriate language and formats
