Launched in September 2015, La Bouquinerie is a "work integration workshop" (ACI) that offers a free collection service for used books, CDs, DVDs, video games, and vinyl records to give them a second life.
The collected items are repurposed through three channels:- resale online via sites like Amazon, Priceminister, or Fnac.
com; - paper recycling through local paper
mills; and - supplying community libraries.
We want to offer employment to homeless individuals currently staying in shelters in the Lille metropolitan area. The idea is to help these individuals get back on their feet through this new job and gradually support them toward finding independent housing. In this way,
we aim to help free up shelter spaces so that people currently waiting for a solution can be accommodated.
Indeed, one of the causes of the current shortage of shelter spaces is the increase in the average length of stay in these facilities. On average, there are currently 500 people waiting for shelter spaces in Lille, with approximately 5,000 shelter spaces available (CHU, CHRS, and other types of facilities).
We work in partnership with shelters that refer individuals who have expressed a desire to return to work but are currently excluded from the workforce due to their current difficulties.
There are three types of positions available:- Collecting books, CDs, and DVDs (driver, delivery person)
- Warehouse logistics: handling, sorting books, and storage
- Order preparation and shipping
Our team consists of 10 people: 3 in management and supervision, and 7 in the work integration program.
