Support from foundations and businesses remains very important in helping us to build and improve our web platform, feed our database of solutions and facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and expertise around the world.
CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP
A scheme is available to professionals as part of corporate sponsorship, which allows them to benefit from a tax reduction in the event of a donation (financial or material) to a public interest organisation, or the purchase of a cultural asset declared a national treasure. When the donation is made by a company, the deduction amounts to 60% of the payment, up to a limit of 0.5% of its turnover. The scheme is set out in Article 238 bis of the General Tax Code and explained in tax documentation BOI-BIC-RICI-20-30 of the Official Public Finance Bulletin – Taxes. The tax authorities provide further details in the Official Public Finance Bulletin – Taxes of 3 February 2021.
SKILLS-BASED SPONSORSHIP
Skills-based sponsorship is a donation in kind: it involves a company making employees available to a public interest organisation, who will contribute their skills or labour for a period of time. This is done during working hours, with advantageous tax conditions. Skills-based sponsorship is distinct from volunteering (or skills-based volunteering), which involves individuals giving their personal time to a social organisation. Skills are the ability to mobilise, in a specific context, an appropriate combination of knowledge, know-how and interpersonal skills to implement a defined project or solve a given problem. Skills-based sponsorship can take two forms: – Provision of services: The company undertakes to carry out a specific task, which it will manage alone, for the benefit of a public interest organisation. – Loan of labour: The company makes one or more employees available to an organisation eligible for skills-based sponsorship. The organisation manages the task and may act as the functional authority in this context. The duration and frequency of skills sponsorship can vary considerably depending on needs: it can be a short assignment, even just half a day, or a longer assignment, even full-time for up to three years. Regardless of the format chosen, skills-based volunteering is always based on the same three principles: the personal commitment of the employee, the response to a clearly identified need of the organisation, and the agreement of the company.
